How do people that have felonies and have been to prison for some time become lawyers?

I have felonies and was told I cannot become an attorney because of it? So how do people with harsher felonies than mine become attorneys?

they hire an attorney to help get them into law school and help get them accepted by the bar It is very hard to do.
