How long will my license suspension be?
I’m on a 1 year probationary period with the Iowa DOT. After an OWI in 2014 I got my license reinstated in June of 2015 (after a 6 month suspension). My probationary period with the Iowa DOT ends June of 2016. I just received a speeding ticket for 21+ over, but not 25+ over. Will my license be suspended for another 6 month or shorter. I’m not familiar with the Iowa DOT suspension periods for a new violation while on their probation period.
I only had one previous speeding ticket in 2007 and the OWI in 2014.
Traffic Lawyer Richard Simon’s Answer
In reading Iowa’s laws and regulations. there are a myriad of facts needed to answer this question but on its face I can give you a few possibilities. They could convict you as a habitual offender which means your license is suspended for years, it could mean another 6 months of probation or suspension. You need to find out what your driving record is and find out how many points on it. You need to hire a lawyer asap and see if you can get this amended or removed and try to avoid this.
