What can I do since the ticket claims I was going enough over the limit to not allow for taking a course to reduce points?
An officer claims he clocked me via radar going 28 over the limit at the top of a hill followed by 30 over part of the way down and ending with 33 over at the bottom of the hill. I told the officer that I was not sure of how fast I was going nor what the speed limit was for that area since I live out of state in South Dakota and he told me the speed limit was 60 and that this was posted earlier on that road. He ended up issuing me a ticket for going 33 over the limit. I would like to do anything in my power to avoid having the maximum number of points go on my record (less concerned about the fine itself) for this alleged offense and am unsure of how to go about this. The only thing I can think of is obtaining the officer’s certification for using the radar unit to ensure he was in fact certified, asking how recently he had calibrated the unit and seeing if he used valid tuning forks to do so, though I assume he will claim that he did everything by the book anyway.
Within the past 4 months I did receive one ticket for going 78 in a 65 during the course of a very long drive but other than that it has been a very long time since receiving any speeding ticket.
