There’s nothing like driving down the open road. The wind in your hair, the sun on your skin, and the miles stretching out before you. However, before you can enjoy all that, there are a few things you need to make sure are in the car with you and up to date first. Here are the three things you’re required to have before hitting the open road.
Drivers License
This one is pretty self-explanatory. In order to operate a vehicle on public roads, you need to have a valid driver’s license with you. If you don’t have a license, you can either get one by passing a written and driving test at your local DMV or by taking a driver’s education course.
Failure to have a valid license on you should you be pulled over will result in a traffic citation, and possibly even a trip to jail if you’re unable to produce one. So, as long as you have your license on you whenever you’re driving, you should be good to go.
Car Insurance
This one is also important to have for several reasons. First and foremost, it’s illegal to drive without some form of car insurance in most states. That means if you’re caught driving without insurance, you could be subject to a fine or even have your license suspended. Even if it wasn’t required by law, though, carrying car insurance, something like Mike Pierce Insurance, is still a good idea. Car insurance is meant to protect you financially in the event of an accident by covering any damages sustained to your vehicle as well as any medical expenses resulting from injuries you or your passengers may sustain. Without it, trying to get your car repaired can be incredibly expensive.
Map or GPS
This one may seem old-fashioned in the age of Google Maps, but it’s always good to have a physical map of your route just in case your phone dies or you lose cell service. If you don’t want to carry around a paper map, though, that’s okay! You can download offline maps onto your phone before you hit the road so you’ll still be able to access them even if you can’t get online.
It’s also a good idea to have a GPS with you in the car, just in case you need it. Even if you’re using your phone for navigation, having a separate GPS can be a lifesaver if, once again, your phone battery dies or you lose service. Being able to navigate while on the road is important, so make sure you have ways of helping you get to your intended destination.
Hitting the open road is one of life’s great joys, but before you can do that, there are a few things you need to take care of first. Make sure you have a valid driver’s license, car insurance, and a map (or GPS) of your route before setting off on your adventure! Doing so can protect you from the consequences of the law, repair bills, and getting lost.
